Periksakan kucing ke dokter hewan, mungkin tingkah laku tersebut dipicu oleh gangguan kesehatan yang dialami oleh si kucing. Aspek lain untuk dipertimbangkan, ialah jarak antara kotak pasir dengan tempat kucing biasa buang air. Masalah sulitnya akses si kucing untuk merasa nyaman sangat mempengaruhi dalam kegiatan tersebut.

Ada strategi atau cara untuk mengatasi masalah seperti diatas, yaitu dengan menempatkan beberapa kotak pasir dengan berbagai ukuran. Idealnya, anda dapat menyediakan beberapa kotak pasir dengan ukuran yang berbeda -  beda ataupun dengan bentuk yang berbeda – beda. Kemudian amati kotak seperti apa yang ia lebih nyaman untuk buang air. Lakukan dalam jangka waktu minimal  1 minggu sebagai percobaan. Tetapi jangan lupa berlah perlakuan yang sama terhadap kotak – kotak pasir tersebut. Terutama, kebersihan pasir yang digunakan di dalam kotak pasir tersebut, serta untuk jenis pasir gunakan satu jenis saja.

TANDA TANDA KUCING AKAN MELAHIRKAN DAN CARA PENANGANANNYA

Masa kehamilan untuk kucing adalah antara 64 dan 67 hari, dengan rata-rata 66 hari, dengan jumlah  tiga sampai lima anak kucing. Anak pertama biasanya lebih kecil dari anak berikutnya. Anak kucing disapih antara enam atau tujuh minggu, dan kucing biasanya mencapai kematangan seksual pada usia 5-10 bulan (betina) dan 5-7 bulan (laki-laki), meskipun hal ini dapat bervariasi tergantung pada jenis.  Kucing betina dapat dua sampai 3 kali melahirkan dalam setahun, sehingga dapat menghasilkan hingga 150 anak kucing dalam masa produktif mereka, yaitu sekitar sepuluh tahun.

Seekor kucing hamil umumnya cukup mandiri dan tahu apa yang dia perlu lakukan untuk melahirkan anak-anaknya. Tapi sebagai pemilik anda perlu mengetahui beberapa hal agar dapat mengenali permasalahan – permasalahan yang dialami si kucing dan dapat segera membantu bahkan meminta bantuan dokter apabila diperlukan.

Sebelum kelahiran

Dalam dua minggu terakhir kehamilan, lebih baik pisahkan kucing dengan hewan lain ataupun anak – anak. Menjaga kucing setenang dan senyaman mungkin selama waktu ini juga penting sebagai waktu istirahat untuk menunggu proses persalinan. Anda juga harus memilihkan tempat yang nyaman untuknya melakukan persalinan.

Salah satu cara memberikan tempat melahirkan yang nyaman adalah tempat tersebut harus kokoh, misalnya adalah Sebuah kotak kardus yang berukuran 60 cm X 90 cm dengan tinggi ideal 50 cm, ditambah dengan atap jika diperlukan. Serta perlu memiliki lubang di bagian depan tapi pastikan bahwa lubang  tidak cukup rendah sehingga anak-anak kucing dapat merangkak keluar. Kotak harus cukup luas untuk mereka berbaring serta hangat. Maka dari itu perlu juga dialasi dengan selimut di lanta di dalam kotak tersebut.

Melahirkan

memantau proses persalinan sebenarnya susah – susah gampang, anda harus jeli mengenali masalah – masalah yang akan timbul pada saat persalinan, dan memberikan pertolongan dan bantuan pada si kucing untuk kelancaran proses persalinan tersebut. Namun, jangan lupa tetap simpan nomor telepon dokter hewan langganan anda, apabila nanti suatu saat membutuhkan pertolongan yang tidak dapat anda tangani sendiri.

Ada tiga tahap persalinan pada kucing. Yang pertama sering dapat berlalu tanpa ada yang memperhatikan adalah pada saat  leher rahim dan rahim mempersiapkan persalinan. Mungkin ada kontraksi yang tidak memiliki tanda – tanda. Kucing kemungkinan akan gelisah pada tahap ini, menjadi cerewet  dan mondar – mandir keluar masuk kotak persalinan , tetapi tanpa menghasilkan apa – apa. Jika ia tidak menetap di kotak persalinannya, jangan mencoba untuk memindahkannya. Ikuti saja keinginannya untuk melahirkan dimanapun selama tidak membahayakan.

Tahap dua adalah di mana anak-anak kucing mulai keluar dan dapat memakan waktu  2-24 jam untuk menyelesaikannya. siapkan semangkuk air hangat bersama dengan handuk bersih, beberapa benang gigi dan sarung tangan sekali pakai. Beberapa anak kucing muncul kepala duluan sementara yang lain keluar kaki duluan dan kedua – duanya masih normal. Biasanya ada interval 30-45 menit antar anak kucing, kadang-kadang lebih. Jika ada tanda-tanda kontraksi, darah keluar  atau saat anak kucing keluar sangat cepat tanpa sempat  memecahkan kantung ketuban, maka perlu campur tangan anda untuk membantu.

Kucing akan mematahkan setiap kantung ketuban - membran tipis sekitar setiap kucing yang berisi cairan - tetapi jika dia tidak menggunakan handuk atau kain untuk melakukan ini dan memungkinkan kucing untuk napas. Jika Anda perlu melakukan ini, memberikan anak kucing menggosok dan membersihkan mulut mereka untuk merangsang pernapasan.

Setiap kelahiran, induk kucing akan menggigit setiap kantung ketuban, yaitu membran tipis yang membungkus setiap anak kucing yang berisi cairan. Jika induk kucing tidak sempat melakukannya, gunakan handuk atau kain untuk melakukan ini dan memungkinkan anak kucing untuk bernfpas. Jika anda melakukan itu, rangsanglah anak kucing untuk bernafas.
Setelah kelahiran, sang induk akan menggigit tali pusat anak kucing. Jika dia tidak melakukannya, gunakan benang gigi untuk melakukan itu. Jangan memotong terlalu dekat anak kucing karena hal ini dapat menyebabkan infeksi fatal dan celupkan dalam larutan yodium atau chlorhexidine untuk menghentikan infeksi.
Tahap terakhir adalah keluarnya plasenta dan harus terjadi setelah setiap kelahiran. Biasanya induk kucing akan memakannya. Pastikan jumlah plasenta melewati sesuai dengan jumlah anak kucing, meskipun kadang-kadang kembar bisa berbagi satu.

First of all, ringworm is NOT a worm, it is a fungus. Ringworm spores can travel great distances on air currents, and can be brought into your home and on your clothing/shoes. Basically, ringworm spores are everywhere in the environment, outside as well as inside our homes. Anyone who owns (or has owned) a Persian cat knows that at some time or another they will have to deal with ringworm. In our opinion, any cattery that says they have never had a case of ringworm may have failed to recognize the signs of infection in their cats.

Ringworm and Persian cats (and other long-haired breeds) go hand in hand. Especially, when bringing in a new cat or kitten. The stress of the move and the age of the cat, can all play a part in that new cat or kitten developing ringworm within 3-4 weeks of coming to a new home. The very young, the very old and immunosuppressed cats or kittens are at the highest risk of getting ringworm. Ringworm exposure is why it is imperative to isolate or quarantine a new Persian kitten or cat for at least 4 weeks to make sure that it has not developed ringworm and could potentially infect other household pets. Sometimes, a cat can be an asymptomatic carrier which means that it can have ringworm, but not show any signs of having it. However, a carrier sheds the spores and infects other cat(s) in the household. Ringworm is a zoonotic disease (can be transmitted from animals to humans).

If left untreated, ringworm can be very difficult to eradicate from a household the fungal spores can contaminate the environment a cat is housed in. Ringworm is a systemic disease which requires treatment with an oral medication as well as an anti-fungal dip (Lime Sulphur Dip) for the spores. Failing to use this two prong approach means that the Ringworm will not be fully eradicated !
